The Marathoner

This is my DH finishing up a 24.5 mile run on the Mopac trail. David ran out and joined him for the last 50 feet or so. Kurt is planning on running in the Lincoln Marathon in 41 days, 17 hours, 41 minutes, and 42 seconds, so he is training very hard. Here is his training blog, Kurt's Marathon Blog. One of these days I want to hike the Mopac trail (no running, no timing, just a nice hike). Any hikers out there?

Is this the trail that goes to Walton? If I did a lot of training, I might try to bicycle it! I'm not up to walking more than a mile right now -- and since it is my knees it probably won't get better!

The trail goes through Walton all the way to Wabash (21.5 one way, 43 round trip). The first 18 are marked with mileage posts.

I've seen a lot of bikers on the trail. They pick a distance (say, 6 mi), then ride out to the 3 mile marker and return.

The trail is lovely with a relatively smooth surface and no steep grades, and is an easy ride for bicyclists (especially ones with bad knees!). The trail has a bit of a problem in Eagle (it stops at a grainery but does not tell you where it restarts) but that's at the 10 point so unless you are going 20 miles (10 out and 10 back) you won't see it. The prettiest is the last approx 6 miles, starting before Greenwood and going into Wabash.
